September 29, 2020 - Volunteers needed for Neighborhood Distributions
For the past several months, the Foodbank has had the assistance of the Ohio National Guard. They have been instrumental in streamlining our Neighborhood Distributions, enabling the Foodbank to serve thousands of families in a very short timeframe. The National Guard’s time at the Foodbank is coming to an end, so we are asking for your help to keep the distributions running smoothly.
The Foodbank is seeking volunteers ready for a workout! Neighborhood Distributions take place outside, rain or shine, and are a great opportunity to work directly with the individuals and families we serve. This is a physically demanding opportunity, as volunteers are lifting boxes up to 30 pounds into guests’ vehicles. If interested in helping at a distribution, please call 330.535.6900 or email email@example.com.
September 11, 2020 - Update to face covering policy
The safety of our volunteers and guests is our utmost priority. As the Summit County Public Health Department recently revised its Face Covering Order, order 2020-09, your Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank will also revise its face covering policy to adhere to these new guidelines.
All volunteers are required to wear a face covering while on the property of the Foodbank. We understand there are certain exemptions to face covering requirements under state law, however, the Foodbank is no longer able to accommodate these exceptions in our volunteer center at this time. We also require volunteers to wash their hands before beginning a shift, and stay home if experiencing any symptoms or if COVID-19 exposure has occurred. Volunteers will be spread out throughout the volunteer center to adhere to social distancing guidelines.
Face coverings may be removed in the Foodbank commons area in order to eat or drink while seated though volunteers should maintain 6-feet of social distance.
Volunteers are to enter through the front doors of the Foodbank to check in. If you do not have a covering, you will be given the option to wear a provided mask or to reschedule your volunteer shift for a later date. This current order is mandated by Summit County Public Health until January 8, 2021.
Please make note, at this time we’re able to accommodate adult and corporate groups of no more than 10 people. We cannot accommodate youth groups, however minors, ages 10 and up, can volunteer with a guardian.
Currently, we’re inviting volunteers back to the facility:
- Monday-Friday for individuals from 8:30am-3:30pm with a break for cleaning from 12:30pm-1:30pm.
- Monday-Friday for groups from 9:00am-11:30am and 1:00pm-3:30pm.
- First and third Wednesday evenings from 4:30pm-6:30pm.
- Saturdays from 8:30am-11am.
- We’re actively recruiting volunteers for the Neighborhood Distribution, held the second and fourth Thursday from 1:30pm-4:30pm in July and August.
To promote a safe experience, space is limited for all volunteer opportunities. To ensure a space is open, it is important for all volunteers to sign up for a time slot prior to arrival.
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank!
