We meet Ruth Ann, 96, on a sunny afternoon at Carroll Golden Age Retreat, a senior residential facility for older adults in Carroll County. She’s lived in Carrollton her entire life.
Ruth Ann recently moved to the facility and enjoys the activities it offers. The Retreat is a county-operated facility that provides assisted living, custodial care and respite services for older adults who lack the financial resources for reliable care. The facility offers its residents three nourishing meals each day.
“The food here is excellent,” she says with a smile. “The treatment here is great and all the aides are very good. Everyone here is very nice.”
Before retiring, Ruth Ann worked for 32 years as an office manager. After retirement, she volunteered at Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry, helping neighbors experiencing food insecurity and staying connected to her community. She also served on multiple nonprofit boards.
Her bedroom is filled with photos of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She especially loves when they visit during the holidays. It’s clear that Ruth Ann’s story is rooted in family and a lifetime of service to her community.
Because of the community’s support, Ruth Ann and countless other older adults have access to the nourishing groceries they need at any stage in life.
