The Stuff the Train campaign, a partnership between the Orrville Railroad Heritage Society and the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, successfully rallied the community during Hunger Action Month, collecting more than 2,100 pounds of food and more than $2,000 in monetary donations to support local families facing food insecurity.
The community-wide effort encouraged local businesses, organizations, schools and residents to host food and fund drives throughout the campaign. Donations culminated on September 9 as supporters gathered to "Stuff the Train" with food and hope for neighbors in need.
“This year's first annual Stuff the Train event demonstrates the incredible generosity of the Wayne County community,” said Katie carver Reed, Executive Vice President. “Thanks to the support of our donors, volunteers, sponsors and partners, we are helping ensure local families have access to the nutritious food they need.”
Campaign results included:
- 17 participating businesses and organizations
- More than 2,100 pounds of food collected
- More than $2,000 in monetary donations
- Nearly 8,000 meals provided to local families
The collected donations will help the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank serve individuals and families throughout the region who are experiencing hunger. Every contribution helps strengthen the Foodbank's mission of providing food resources and support to neighbors in need.
Last year, the Foodbank was successful in providing 1.4 million meals to food insecure individuals and families tight her in Wayne County. With the incredible resource of a new facility, the Wayne County Campus, we are on track to surpass that achievement.
The success of Stuff the Train would not have been possible without the dedication of volunteers, community partners, participating organizations and individual donors who stepped forward during Hunger Action Month to make a difference.
