Michael Wilson joined the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank in May of 2010 as one of the very first members of the organization's marketing department. He currently serves as vice president of marketing and communications and is responsible for the organization’s branding and marketing, internal and external communications, and major events.
Shortly after starting at the Foodbank, Michael initiated the creation of CORE, a passionate group of young professionals who are interested in expanding their professional network while helping our neighbors struggling with hunger. Michael also played an integral role in the submission of the Foodbank’s application for Feeding America’s Food Bank of the Year, which was successfully awarded in 2012.
Michael grew up in Houston, Texas and moved to Ohio to attend The College of Wooster, where he received a bachelor’s degree in sociology. Prior to joining the Foodbank, Michael was a marketing director for an Akron-based education management company.
Michael believes in giving back to the community through numerous organizations including Torchbearers, where he served on its board from 2013 to 2018 and as president in 2017. Michael received a 30 for the Future award from the Greater Akron Chamber in 2013, was named the Foodbank’s Employee of the Year in 2013, received a Distinguished Sales & Marketing Award from Sales and Marketing Executives International of Akron in 2014 and was named as a Notable Marketing Executive by Crain's Cleveland in 2021. Michael is also a graduate of Leadership Akron's Signature Program Class 36.
Michael resides in west Akron with his partner, Patrick, and their son, Aiden. He enjoys attending baseball games with his family, long weekend getaways, and staying up-to-date with the latest tech products.
