Saturday, Dec. 20 may be one of the busiest days for many families preparing for their holiday festivities—as it is the last Saturday before Christmas.  But hundreds of Northeast Ohio individuals won’t be thinking about the gifts they will buy, the decorations in their home or the meal they will prepare.

On Saturday Dec. 20, hundreds of pre-registered individuals will be taking action, and celebrating the meaning of the holiday season at the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank for the second annual Selfless Elf 5K.

As part of the Subway Challenge Series, the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank is hosting the second annual Selfless Elf 5K to conclude their holiday Hunger-Free Families campaign. Race participants will be dressed in festive holiday-themed running gear and costumes, and are invited to will run or walk the 3.1-mile course beginning and ending at the Foodbank.

Mrs. Chief, married to the social media phenomenon Chief Oliver of the Brimfield Police Department is running in this year’s race, and has already raised more than $250 for the Foodbank, earning her VIP Elf Status. “I will be taking on my first 5K for the Foodbank’s Selfless Elf,” said Mrs. Chief. “I'm going to be cold and uncomfortable during the event, but at the end of it, I don't have to worry about my children being hungry. I don't want any children to go without food. That's all the motivation I need.”

Please visit selflesself.com for additional information or if you’re interested in participating and would like to pre-register. Those pre-registered will receive a race t-shirt and special souvenir striped elf socks on a first come first serve basis. Registration begins at the Foodbank at 6:30am, and the race starts promptly at 8:00am.

Join the Foodbank, and become reminded why it is the most wonderful time of the year.
