Akron, OH – (Aug. 31, 2015) – The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank joins 200 Feeding America food banks across the country to support Hunger Action Month—a nationwide initiative designed to mobilize the public to take action on the issue of hunger this September.

By participating in Hunger Action Month, community members will help raise awareness for the individuals and families who experience hunger in our community, and be invited to become involved to make a tangible difference in the fight to end hunger.

“September is an opportunity for all hunger-relief advocates to take simple steps towards supporting those facing hunger,” said Dan Flowers, President and CEO of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank. “We are eager to rally around Hunger Action Month as we continue our fight to solve this issue.”

Here’s how you can take action this September:

Turn Orange: Wear orange, the color of hunger relief, on September 3, 2015 to show your support for Hunger Action Month. Make sure to share a picture of your orange style socially with @ACRFoodbank using the hashtag #HungerAction.

Volunteer:

  • Operation Orange- Grab a group of family members, friends or coworkers, and join the Foodbank for our third annual 24-hour volunteer event, Operation Orange September 11-12, 2015.
  • Hunger Action Day of Service- Foodbank hunger-relief partners like food pantries and hot meal sites submitted volunteer projects they need assistance with. From painting walls to helping with landscape, projects will be completed on September 25, 2015.

Advocate: The Foodbank needs your help throughout the year as it advocates for a strong Child Nutrition Bill and other important policy issues that impacts people struggling with hunger. Please visit the Foodbank’s website to sign up for action alerts.

In honor of Hunger Action Month and Operation Orange, the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank has received a generous donation of $15,000 from the Dominion Foundation to help feed people in its service region.
