The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank is excited to welcome the community to its 13th annual Selfless Elf 5k run/walk on Dec. 20, a beloved holiday tradition that begins and ends at the Foodbank’s Main Campus in Akron.
This year introduces a new twist: participants can now register as a team, adding a fun, competitive spirit for families, friends and coworkers looking to celebrate the season together.
Runners and walkers are encouraged to arrive in their most festive holiday costumes and running gear. Each registrant will receive the event’s signature brightly colored elf socks and a commemorative race shirt.
Following the race, an awards ceremony will honor the top overall male and female runners and competitive walkers, Most Dashing (best dressed) participant, Top VIP Elf (top fundraiser), and the fastest team.
“In the wake of the recent government shutdown and delayed SNAP food benefits, our community has shown extraordinary compassion,” said Dan Flowers, president and CEO of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank. “We’re deeply grateful for how people have stepped up to support our work during this challenging time. But we also know our work is far from over as our neighbors take time to recover and rebound. Events like Selfless Elf remind us that when we come together, we can continue to meet the rising need and ensure our neighbors have the food and nourishment they deserve.”
Selfless Elf has grown into a cherished family event featuring upbeat music throughout the warehouse courtesy of DJ Nick Duvé, a special visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus and festive photo opportunities for families to capture memories together.
As one of the Foodbank’s signature events, Selfless Elf marks the culmination of its annual Holiday Campaign and provides a fun and unique way for the community to support local hunger relief.
For the safety and wellbeing of children and families in attendance, dogs are not permitted at the event.
Visit SelflessElf.com for additional information or to register as a race participant. Onsite registration begins at the Foodbank at 6:30am on race day, and the race begins promptly at 8am.
