The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank kicked off its annual Holiday Campaign earlier this month which runs through Dec. 31. The Foodbank encourages community members to help families find joy this holiday season by finding a way to engage in the campaign.

Although many families are back to work, for the most vulnerable populations served by the Foodbank, it will take more time to rebound from the economic losses endured during the pandemic. Though food insecurity projections have declined slightly, food insecurity is expected to remain elevated in 2021, according to Feeding America. In the Foodbank’s service region, there are still more than 204,000 individuals who many struggle with hunger.

“It is our goal to ensure that every family has access to safe and nourishing food,” said Foodbank President and CEO Dan Flowers. “We’re happy that families aren’t struggling as severely as they were this time last year, but our work doesn’t end here. With more than 200,000 people looking to us for help, your Foodbank and our dedicated network of hunger-relief partners are committed to this work for the long haul. We’re here to serve this community no matter what.”

To help sustain local hunger-relief efforts, the Foodbank is asking the community to support its annual Holiday Campaign. Food brings people together; food helps make lasting memories. This year, as families gather after a long time apart, holiday traditions will feel even more cherished. But for families facing hunger, holiday meals might not feel as special.
