The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank is excited to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its Selfless Elf 5k. Community members are invited to run or walk the 3.1-mile course beginning and ending at the Foodbank’s Main Campus in Akron on Dec. 17. Race participants are encouraged to dress in festive, holiday-themed costumes and running gear.

The race is one of the Foodbank’s signature events and is a celebration of the culmination of its Holiday Campaign. It’s a great way for the community to support individuals and families in the region struggling with hunger.

“As more families experience hardships because of inflation and the increased costs of basic essentials, we’re extremely grateful for our community of supporters,” said Dan Flowers, Foodbank president and CEO. “We’ve been forced to purchase a significant amount of food this year because of inflation and supply chain issues, and we’re able to do that because of the generosity of this gracious community. Selfless Elf is one more way the community can engage with and support its Foodbank.”

This family-friendly event includes holiday music throughout the warehouse, carolers along the race route, and a fun photobooth so families can commemorate the event. Race participants will receive the iconic elf socks and shirt, and new this year, jingle bells will be available. The first 500 registrants will also receive red and white striped gloves and a Christmas bulb headband that lights up. An awards ceremony will highlight the top overall male and female runners and competitive walkers, Most Dashing (best dressed) and Top VIP Elf (top fundraiser).

A special thank you to NJM Insurance Group and Shearer’s Snacks, title sponsors for the event.

Please note, dogs are no longer permitted at the event as the safety and wellbeing of the children and families in attendance are the top priority.

Visit selflesself.com for additional information or to register as a race participant. Onsite registration begins at the Foodbank at 6:30am on race day, and the race starts promptly at 8am.
