Planned Gifts

For many of our supporters, it is important to find a way to ensure that the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank can continue the fight to eliminate hunger for years to come. There are various ways in which to make a long-term commitment to support our hunger-relief efforts.

BEQUESTS

Remembering the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank in a bequest is often the easiest way for many donors to make a legacy gift to the Foodbank. You can make a significant difference in helping to feed people and fight hunger by naming the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank as a beneficiary. Here are some common bequest options:

SPECIFIC BEQUEST

Donor determines a specific dollar amount or asset to leave to the Foodbank.

RESIDUAL BEQUEST

Donor gives a percentage or remainder of estate to the Foodbank after providing for loved ones.

PERCENTAGE BEQUEST

Donor gives a percentage of their total estate to the Foodbank.

CHARITABLE GIFT ANNUITY

With a charitable gift annuity, a donor can transfer cash or marketable property. Your gift is held for the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank and the donor by Feeding America. The donor(s) receives fixed payments during their lifetime as well as potential tax benefits from choosing to support the Foodbank through a charitable gift annuity. Once the donor(s) passes away, the residual of the charitable gift annuity comes to the Foodbank.

LIFE INSURANCE

Life insurance gifts can be made by either assigning an existing policy to the Foodbank, or by designating the Foodbank as a beneficiary of a new policy.

RETIREMENT ASSETS (401(K), TRADITIONAL IRAs)

Some donors designate the Foodbank as the beneficiary of their retirement assets. The Foodbank receives the distribution; therefore, neither you nor your estate will owe income taxes on the amount. Donors should consult their tax advisors about their specific situations.
