Celebrity Cuisine event canceled due to Coronavirus precautions
Mar 13, 2020
The 28th Annual Celebrity Cuisine, to be held on March 31, is canceled due to Governor DeWine’s recent Coronavirus ban on gatherings of more than 100 people. Celebrity Cuisine benefits Community Harvest, the prepared and perishable food rescue program of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank.
Celebrity Cuisine is vital to the work of the Foodbank’s Community Harvest program and its ability to recover and deliver healthy, nourishing food to people in need. As the program’s largest fundraiser, Celebrity Cuisine helps provide thousands of meals for community members struggling with hunger in Stark County.
Funds raised from the event make a lasting impact on the 1 in 7 people who are food insecure. The lost revenue from this fundraiser will make it difficult for the Foodbank’s Community Harvest program to rescue food that would otherwise go to waste. But with the community’s support, the program still hopes to reach its event goal of providing 270,000 meals.
To support the Foodbank’s food rescue initiatives, in lieu of the Celebrity Cuisine event, please consider making a donation at FeedingStark.org.
“With kids home from school missing breakfast and lunch during the next few weeks, many families will struggle with the demands of paying for food when required to stay home with their children without pay,” said Foodbank CEO and President Dan Flowers. “Supporting the members of our community who need it now more than ever is our top priority. Having to cancel Celebrity Cuisine will negatively impact our work and we hope the community will stand with us throughout this difficult time.”
Donate your ticket to local hunger relief
Several sponsors have generously purchased tables for the event and general admission tickets have already been sold. The event typically has 1,600 guests in attendance. The Foodbank hopes tickets holders will consider donating the cost of their ticket to help contribute to local hunger-relief efforts, making 100 percent of the ticket purchase tax-deductible.
