Drive-Thru Food Distribution FAQs

I’m in need of food assistance. Where do I find help?

To find a food program near you, visit the Need Food page on our website. At the top of the page is a Need Food button. There, you can search available food programs by zip code. Or give us a call at 330.535.6900 to speak with a staff person.

Do you need to pre-register or be referred to the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank’s grocery distribution?

No need to pre-register or be referred.

Do you serve people who walk to the distribution or come via public transit?

Yes, we’re able to serve walkups, though we do recommend bringing a cart to help carry the 26-pound box of food and a bag of fresh produce.

What paperwork must I bring with me to receive food?

If you have a photo ID, please bring it.

Do you deliver food boxes to people in need?

Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity to deliver food to individual homes. If you’re unable to leave your home, please call 2-1-1; they might be able to connect you with a food program near you that delivers.

I am unable to leave my home. Can someone else pick up the food box for me?

Yes. Simply write on a piece of paper your name, address, phone number and how many people are in your household. Then write, “I, YOUR NAME, give FRIEND/FAMILY MEMBER’S NAME permission to pick up food on my behalf.”

What food items will I receive at your distribution?

Each household will receive a 26-pound box of shelf-stable food items, such as rice, beans, canned goods, soups, etc. Each household will also receive a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, and if available, bread.

Do I need to live in Akron (or Summit County) to receive food?

No, you do not need to be a resident of Akron or Summit County in order to receive food.

Is there an income eligibility requirement in order to receive food?
