Celebrate Earth Day by Helping Farmers and Businesses Reduce Waste
Apr 22, 2015
Right now, Congress is considering legislation that would expand tax deductions for farmers and businesses for giving food to food banks and make them a permanent part of the tax code. The bill, called the America Gives More Act, has already passed the House. We are fighting to get it passed in the Senate and sent to the President for his signature, and we need your help!
This legislation would have a significant impact on our ability to secure more local food, and we are asking our agencies and community partners to sign their organization on to a letter that will be sent to the Senate urging them to pass the bill. Please sign the Food Donation Tax Deduction letter, enter the appropriate information, and submit the form.
We are also asking our advocates with Twitter accounts to tweet our Senators the following message:
@senrobportman @SenSherrodBrown Vote Yes on #HR644 America Gives More Act. Support @ACRFoodbank & people in need in our communities!
Earth Day is the perfect time to help reduce waste by keeping good food out of landfills and getting it onto the plates of food insecure Americans. Improving the food donation deduction is a common-sense policy that helps feed people and protects the environment.
