The HR Generalist will support the day-to-day operations of HR for the organization, with the intent of safeguarding the organization’s best-in-class employment brand.  Responsibilities include talent acquisition and retention, new hire orientation and onboarding, benefits administration, HRIS, organizational performance management, training and leadership development, policy and procedure administration, employee relations and employment law compliance.  This position works closely with the Director of HR to enhance and strengthen organizational performance, culture and overall employee engagement.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support organizational recruitment efforts; roll out the red carpet for new hires by facilitating orientation and all on-boarding activities.  
  • Provide administrative support and execution of the benefits program. Ensure that benefit invoices are paid adequately and in a timely basis, keep records of benefit plan and participation.  Assist HR Director in the annual benefits renewal process. 
  • Administer, coordinate and track leaves of absence related to disability, FMLA or worker’s compensation. 
  • Provide guidance and support to supervisors and managers in administering human resources policies and procedures to ensure that employees are treated fairly, equitably, and consistently to establish a supportive work environment and to avoid potential legal liabilities.
  • In partnership with the HR Director, administer the employee satisfaction survey and report results to leadership; partner with leadership to identify opportunities for improvement to strengthen the overall levels of engagement across the organization.
  • Coordinate and deploy focal point performance reviews, ensuring they are done in a timely manner; monitor and report organizational performance results to respective leadership. 
  • Maintain and ensure accurate HRIS records; compile reports from the database, as requested.
  • Maintain employee personnel files.
  • Assist and coach leaders on employee relations; maintain documentation and ensure proper resolution.   
  • Ensure organizational compliance with Federal, State & Local legislation related to HR matters; review all Foodbank HR policies and procedures for compliance and ensure that annual audits are made to track any labor law changes or benefits changes.
  • Maintain and coordinate employee recognition programs. Work with committee to enhance employee engagement.
  • Oversee the HR department in the absence of the HR Director, serve as lead in the department, providing guidance and support to finance team.
  • Monitor, evaluate and benchmark the organization’s compensation practices to drive, attract and retain talent.   
  • Perform other duties, as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Education: Bachelor’s Degree, required; HR management degree, preferred.
  2. Experience: Three to five years of progressive HR experience in a Generalist capacity.
  3. Passion for people with a servant leadership philosophy.
  4. Excellent project management and organizational ability.
  5. Commitment to organizational mission of ending hunger.
  6. Ability to work effectively and patiently with a diverse group of individuals.
  7. Ability to work in a fast paced environment, balancing multiple organizational priorities while meeting expectations; must be able to discern work priorities and meet deadlines with little supervision.
  8. Proficient in preparing and executing effective communication strategies, both verbal and written to a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  9. Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.  Experience with an HRIS application or related software desirable, preferably Paycor.
  10. Process oriented with the ability to think on your feet.
  11. Ability to develop cooperation and teamwork while participating in a group of people, working toward solutions to benefit all involved parties.
  12. Demonstrate appropriate professional behavior using a high degree of integrity and diplomacy in working with others; models and exercises sound judgment regarding interpersonal relationships; maintains stable performance and emotional control when faced with opposition, pressure, hostility from others or otherwise stressful conditions. Tactful, empathetic and able to maintain confidentiality.
  13. Able to research, analyze and troubleshoot problems. Able to apply learning appropriately.
  14. Work independently, set priorities, and anticipate reporting and communication needs of supervisor.
