Disaster-Relief
The recent hurricanes and storm aftermath left many people in Texas, Louisiana and the Midwest with no access to food and other basic supplies. Feeding America sent 435 truckloads of donated food and other supplies to these disaster zones and supplemented the donations by purchasing an additional $691,068 worth of supplies that were also sent. Feeding America is a network of over 200 foodbanks across the country that includes the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank.
Locally, the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank supplied over 900 emergency boxes of high protein food for distribution to families that needed food stamp replacement due to power outages related to the storms.

U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown toured the Foodbank on Wednesday August 6, to discuss the status and availability of emergency food aid. The visit coincided with the release of second quarter food distribution data from the Foodbank. Senator Brown was joined by U.S. Representative Betty Sutton and Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic, who spoke of hunger relief efforts in the 13th District and City of Akron, respectively. "As household budgets are stretched to the breaking point, more Ohioans are turning to food banks for assistance, said Brown, the first Senator from Ohio in 40 years to serve on the Agriculture and Nutrition and Forestry Committee.
