Harvest for Hunger 2012

Harvest for Hunger

Harvest for Hunger, one of the nation's largest food and funds drive campaigns, is a coordinated effort of four Foodbanks in Northeast Ohio that provides critical resources to local hunger relief organizations in 21 counties. Your support is needed as high unemployment has forced more people to turn to local hot meal programs, food pantries and shelters for assistance. Our goal for the 2012 Harvest for Hunger Campaign is to raise $865,000 and 110,000 pounds of food, the equivalent of 2.74 million meals.

Donate to Harvest for Hunger

We need your support to feed people in need right here in our community. Hunger affects children, seniors, the disabled and even working adults. In our community, as many as 180,000 people rely on the Foodbank for emergency food assistance each year. Many have to face tough decisions like whether to pay their heating bills or buy groceries. They turn to the Foodbank and its agencies in their time of need.

Financial Donations

DonateA tax-deductible gift is always welcome, which can be made online or via postal mail marked Harvest for Hunger. For every $1 that you donate, the Foodbank can provide four meals for the hungry!

Food Donations

The demand for emergency food is high, and we need your help. Food donations are welcome, especially the Super Six most needed food items: boxed cereal, peanut butter, canned tuna, canned vegetables, canned beef stew and canned soup.

Donate Your Time

Volunteers are a vital piece to carrying out our mission to Feed People and Fight Hunger. In 2011, the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank hosted more than 1,800 volunteers that provided more than 27,000 hours of service. The help volunteers supply is real, tangible, and relied on by more than 180,000 different people who benefit annually from the food we provide.

Many opportunities exist to volunteer your time at the Foodbank. Please visit our Volunteer Opportunities page, or contact our volunteer coordinator at 330.777.7579 with questions about volunteer opportunities.

Check Out HungerCheck Out Hunger

Donate at your local supermarket by scanning a $1, $5 or $10 coupon at the register between February 26 and April 7. If every grocery store customer would make a donation of $1 during every supermarket visit in March and April, Harvest for Hunger could raise millions of dollars to provide emergency food assistance to those in need. Our supermarket partners include Buehler's Fresh Foods, Dave's Supermarkets, Fishers Foods, Giant Eagle, and Heinen's Fine Foods. Check Out Hunger is also supported by the members of UFCW Local 880.

Celebrity Bagger

Shop at your local supermarket on March 31 between 10am and noon and you could have your groceries bagged by a local celebrity. Community leaders will be volunteering to raise awareness for hunger in our community.
