Foodbank welcomes new board and leadership  


The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank announced the addition of five new members to its 2013 Board of Directors: Nicole Koharik, Thomas Haught, William Shivers, Jim Bowen and Lisa Backlin.

“The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank is honored to welcome our newest board members,” said Dan Flowers, President and CEO of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank. “These new members are all respected leaders from top companies, and they will make great additions to our wonderfully diverse and talented Board of Directors.”

Below is a brief biography of each new member:

Nicole Koharik is the Global Sustainability Marketing Director for GOJO. She joined GOJO in 2006 and has responsibility for multiple strategic cross market initiatives. She leads the development and execution of sustainability strategies and is responsible for the GOJO GREEN HYGIENE™ Solutions portfolio, marketing programs and corporate sustainability communications. Nicole has over 12 years of business-to-business marketing experience and a MA in Communications Management from John Carroll University.

Thomas Haught founded Sequoia Financial Group in 1991. Over the years, his unique team-based approach to financial planning services and client relationships has helped Sequoia grow to the firm it is today. Tom divides his time between managing the Firm and providing comprehensive financial planning for individuals and entrepreneurs. Tom has experience in retirement, investment, and estate planning for individuals, and business growth planning for corporate clients.

William Shivers is President of Huntington's Greater Akron/Canton Region. A 20-year veteran of the banking industry, Shivers joined Huntington in 2007. Previously, Shivers held a commercial banking role at KeyBank. Additionally, his diverse background encompasses serving as a State Examiner for the Ohio State Auditor’s Office; Director of Sales and Marketing, as well as Vice President of Operations, for Quaker Manufacturing Corp.

Jim Bowen is a partner at Bober, Markey, Fedorovich & Company. He has more than 25 years in public accounting, serving both private and public companies in tax, audit, business consulting, financial systems, and business valuations. Over the years, Jim has implemented scores of tax planning strategies for clients of all entity types, in the areas of IRS practice and procedures, state and local income taxation, real and personal property tax, sales and use tax, tax abatements and incentives, mergers and acquisitions, and tax accounting methods and periods.

Lisa Backlin is the Director, Distribution Operations at Grainger. She is responsible for warehouse management and operations of Grainger’s Cleveland, Ohio facility, and for driving quality service and efficient execution of over 1 million orders each year. As a field leader, she is accountable for not only driving efficient and effective process throughout the facility but also for building relationships with the local community.

The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank was named 2012 Foodbank of the Year by Feeding America. These new leaders will contribute to the success of this organization.
